Remembering: How to Grow Close to God
As I have been trying to grow closer to God, I've struggled, learned things, forgotten things, and re-learned things. I needed something to aid in remembering the lessons I've leared. Here I have summarized, categorized and distilled what I have learned from sermons, devotionals, the Word, and my prayers.
It doesn't take the place of in-depth study, devotional time, and prayer. This is just a tool intended to be short enough to frequently review to remember lessons. Repetition drives memory and habit.
I've categorized things down to seven things to remember.
- CHOOSE Christ in all areas of your life.
- Pursue RELATIONSHIP not ritual; spend real quality time with God just like you would with people.
- A VULNERABLE heart is reachable and honest. Seeds don't take root in hard ground, so don't guard your heart against God.
- REMEMBER what God has said and done. Don't let the enemy steal what God has given you.
- SUBMIT to God, because he is in control and knows what is best and most beneficial.
- Embrace Your IDENTITY in Christ; know who you are and you will act like it.
- BREAK CYCLES that pull you away from God by facing your weaknesses and then change by faith.
This could be something you use to help you, or as a starting place to summarize things in a way that make sense to you. What's important is that we don't forget the things we learn and to continue to seek God.
There are links in the navigation with some short writings to each of these seven points.
