Knights
When I was young, I dreamed of being a knight. Oh, not the way they actually were, but the way they were portrayed in stories. Chivalrous, noble, servants, honorable, generous, courageous, and faithful.
These traits spoke to my young heart. That was a plan, and not without reason. These are the things I still want to shine forth in my character. In the stories, the knight always pledged their service to a good king. And, this also resonated. Worthy service given to a worthy king.
While these stories are just false romantic remembering of a time that was much darker and more corrupted, they resonate with us because it is a pattern laid down in our hearts by God.
He is the good and worthy King. Fulfillment is found in pledging our service to him. And, what he commands of us is to do good to everyone we find. To live out the character that culturally would be associated with these fantasy heroes. However, these traits really are the character of Christ. Although there aren't dragons to be slain or heroic quests to undertake, the core of what speaks to us remains. Written into our hearts is a call to serve and follow. So, it is up to us to live a life inline with that truth and serve the King.
What types of things resonated in you as a child? Maybe there is more to those things in your heart than just childhood dreams.
